The alchemy of touch
Touch
- Presence
- Pressure
- Breath
- Movement
- Release
- Connection
Six things happening at once, none of them mysterious. The craft is in holding them together for an hour.
One at a time
What each of them actually means.
Presence
The hour is yours and nothing else is happening in it. No clock-watching, no autopilot, no conversation you have to hold up.
Pressure
Not a setting chosen in advance. It follows what the tissue gives back, and it changes as the body changes underneath it.
Breath
The clearest signal a body sends. Where the breath stops, the work slows down; where it opens, there is room to go further.
Movement
Joints taken through their range rather than pushed through it. Passive, unhurried, and never past what the body offers.
Release
Not a technique. It is what happens once the nervous system decides it is safe enough to stop holding.
Connection
The part that is not mechanical. Being met by someone paying attention is most of why an hour on a table changes anything.
